ruscha words
Ninth grade Studio Art students
created these works after
studying the word
art
of Pop Artist Ed Ruscha. After an introduction on typography and how
letter
forms
can be used to express emotions and ideas, students selected their word.
Next,
students created white paper sculptures of
their
word
on
a white board
background. These sculptures
became the
subject matter for each
student's observational
drawing to
follow. With a good drawing done, students
were
taken
through pencil shading
of the basic forms (cube,
cone,
sphere and cylinder).
The final step saw students
shading their drawings using
their paper sculptures and adding soft pastels for
their
background.
