Automatic drawing & Design Eighth grade art students created these color pencil design pieces on black paper. Based on a lesson from Dick Blick students looked at the automatic drawings of Arp, Miro and others. Students were first asked to created a spontaneous line using white glue on their paper. Coating the line with kosher salt or sugar followed. Next, students used previously studied patterns along with text and images that came to them while working. Spontaneity was stressed as much as possible. Color contrast, value and unity were also emphasized during the process.
